If you believe the major cause of rape in our society is indecent dressing, am sorry, you are an idiot. This is my opinion and I own it - you don't have to agree, and also you don't have to insult. You would be shocked to know the number of rapes that occur every day around us, including girlfriends that are being raped by their boyfriends termed "soft rape", and matrimonial rape. Whether soft rape or matrimonial rape; rape is rape. A society that always blames the victims, a society that always look for what to blame is stupid. We live in a society where instead of finding solutions to problems, we waste our time looking for who and what to blame.
A girl walk through the street in mini-skirt, your penis becomes hard; you ambushed her and raped her. Your only excuse is she was indecently dressed, and to add salt to injury, the society agrees with you and pat you on the back. I don’t know what is more stupid than this. We are indirectly behaving like countries in East and Southern Africa that encourages its men to rape lesbians and indecently dressed women so as to teach them lessons. One thing we know but decide to ignore is that huge numbers of rape victims were decently dressed. So where is the argument here?
The major cause of rape in our society is indiscipline. Also, the inability of our society to conveniently convict a rapist and society's niche to always bring up the 'blame card'. While growing up, discipline is respecting your elders, going to church/mosque, going to school early, don’t fight, don’t receive things with a left hand…our society never teaches its young to respect people's right to live and their decisions. Rather, the society teaches us to be hypocrites. A disciplined man wont allow his penis think for him, a disciplined man will always keep his hormones in check, a disciplined man will respect a woman’s 'NO'. Again, when rape victims do not speak out, we won't be near to finding the solution to this problem. Many, so many rape victims wallow in regrets and self-pity - they refuses to speak because of the backlash they will get. Some rape victims even know who raped them but are scared to say a word. This is how we torment our ladies. Have you ever taught if your mum or sisters are victims? The ugly truth is that some of our mums and sisters are, but they wont speak due to how we behave.
We have allowed a monster to reside amongst us and feed it with our stupidity. Our ladies are raped every day and the numbers are rising, all we could do is to ask them to sit at home and not attend parties or visit friends. Rape will not reduce if women do not exercise their fundamental human rights! Lest I forget, I do not support indecent dressing - people's way of life is none of my business anyway - but blaming it for the upsurge of rape is madness. Spending millions of naira on #SayNoToRape campaign on adverts on media wont make people stop. We need to take education to the primary and secondary schools. We need to educate our young boys on the effects of rape on the individual and society. We need to teach our young men how to respect a woman’s "NO". We need to engage our young brothers in this fight. If we knew what victims pass through, we will render them help and concern ourselves with finding the criminals.
There's no justificatn for rape; it is a crime against a person and a violation of the person's right and body. Why would you insert your penis into an unwilling vagina? How people derive pleasure in rape and ejaculate is beyond me. I don't think there's a crime greater than #Rape. Honestly.
